How do I tell if my child has a learning disability?

It’s important to remember that children learn at different rates of speed and respond to certain teaching styles better than others. If your child is under 5 and exhibits any of the following traits, they may have a learning disability.

  • Delayed speech
  • Difficulty pronouncing words, or problems learning new ones
  • Reading difficulties
  • Problems learning the alphabet, or numbers

These symptoms may be an indication that your child has a learning disability, but it does not mean your child can’t overcome these difficulties by taking new approaches to learning.

If you’re concerned about your child’s learning development, contact a professional to have him or her evaluated.
