Temp agencies typically perform aptitude tests to best match their pool of candidates against the requirements of the hiring companies, and in doing so, they allow those companies to operate without the high overhead of a permanent on-site recruiting department. Workers agree to be placed in non-permanent positions in exchange for a slightly lower rate of pay. The temp agency typically takes a small percentage of the worker’s earnings in return for their services.
