What is the difference between good cholesterol and bad cholesterol?

These days it’s not good enough to know what your cholesterol is. What’s really important is knowing your good cholesterol levels from your bad, and working towards achieving the right balance in your blood.

Good cholesterol is called HDL (high-density lipoprotein) and is high in protein, low in fat. The higher your HDL cholesterol level, the better – HDL molecules actually help clear your arteries and decrease your risk of heart attack.

Bad cholesterol is called LDL (low-density lipoprotein) which is low in protein but very high in fat. LDL molecules can collect in your arteries and are associated with increased risk for heart attack and stroke.

Find out what your good and bad cholesterol levels are today by visiting a doctor.
