How do I install a ceiling fan?

It’s easy to install a ceiling fan in place of an existing lighting fixture, and apart from a screwdriver, most of the required tools will be provided with the kit.

  1. Shut off the power.
  2. Remove the fixture you’re replacing by unscrewing all bolts and unplugging the electrical wiring that connects to the power source above the ceiling.
  3. Attach the mounting bracket that’s provided in your ceiling fan kit.
  4. Connect the new fan’s wiring to the power source.
  5. Mount the fan unit to the mounting bracket and tighten all bolts.
  6. Restore power and test the fan motor.
  7. Install fan blades and peripheral accessories.

Installing a ceiling fan to an area that has not had a previous electrical connection may require professional help. In these cases, you may want to contact an electrician.
