How do I patch a hole in the wall?

Holes in your walls are unsightly, but they can be easily fixed. If you’ve got a small chip in your wall, it’s simple enough to apply a bit of spackle with a putty knife, then sand and smooth when it’s dry. But slightly larger holes require a bit of extra effort.

  1. Buy a drywall repair kit which should include spackle, a putty knife, and patches.
  2. Clean the area around the hole to remove any loose bits of drywall.
  3. Lay an adhesive patch over the hole.
  4. Apply a smooth layer of spackle over the patch with the putty knife, and let dry for about an hour.
  5. Sand the dried layer of spackle until it blends with the wall, and paint over the repaired area.
