Who pays for home health care services?

Home health care services can be paid for by a variety of different sources, all dependent upon the patient’s medical coverage status.

  • Health care providers: If you have private or group health insurance and are in need of home care, this is usually covered, although the amount of coverage varies from plan to plan.
  • Medicare, Medicaid, and the Veterans Administration provide funding for qualified individuals.
  • Self pay: Patients can pay for home health care out of pocket if they don’t qualify to receive it through other means. Most home care providers will work with self-paying patients to negotiate cost.

If you’re unsure where you stand, contact your health care provider to determine the coverage you qualify for.
