Tackling Emergency Roof Repair

With all the unforeseen complications that come with owning property, it is not uncommon to need emergency roof repair. This could be due to falling tree branches, extreme weather, or water seeping in and damaging the inside of the property. Knowing how to address these issues makes it easier when they arise.

Start by making sure you have the right tools and products for the job. Learning the difference between the different brands of shingles, having the right safety equipment, such as gloves and goggles, and having the proper tools to ensure the job is done correctly. It may be wise to consult a contractor, or if going to a home improvement store, find someone with experience in roofing.

When removing old or damaged shingles, it is important to air on the side of caution. Most will be filled with nails, some may also have small chunks of wood attached. Try to remove them with a shovel or broom of some kind to minimize the amount of contact you are having with them.

Always double-check your measurements before beginning. Failure to cover the full area may result in additional damages.
