In the early part of May, I think the 6th; my husband was admitted to Bay Medical for Liver Failure. The first Hospitalist he had was he was a really nice doctor. His cancer doctor was also. My husband was a smoker. He was in very bad shape. I had purchased him one of the electronic cigarettes and both of his doctors said he could smoke. While I was there 24/7 I saw many people going behind a fence across from the ER door and also out in the parking lot in front of the hospital smoking. On the 5th day he was there, he was actually starting to improve slightly; a Doctor if you can call him that, name Klaus came into my husband's room and told us he was discharging my husband. I asked him what he was talking about, my husband was still very sick. He said," If he is well enough to smoke he is well enough to get out of my hospital" and walked out of the room. I immediately got my husband's things and took off for Southeast Medical in Dothan, AL to get him checked out to see if I could make it to Gainesville with him. Thing is he was not a charity case to begin with; the VA paid all of his medical bills. But anyway I made to Gainesville with my husband about 3:30 in the morning on May 12th. By then he was in much worst shape. He was there a couple of days and they sent him home with Hospice. That is right, my husband was a Veteran. He served to tours in Vietnam voluntarily, not drafted, and he was TDY as a Tunnel Rat. He was a good man. Now he is DEAD, as of June the 4th, 2010. Also the cancer he had was caused from Agent Orange, he died for his country even if it was many years later. If you are a Veteran or a smoker don't go to Bay Medical Center. You are treated less than human by some of the staff. Also I would like to say some of the nurses, RN's, LPN's and CNA's were great but there was one there who was a LPN she gave Jimmy a hard time about his electronic cigarette all the others were very understanding and I want to thank them. «
