Starting Shingle Courses the Right Way

The aluminum drip edge should be flush with the roof edge before installing the tiles. The home's roof should have two pencil lines drawn over it. The roofing contractors will connect the two markings by drawing a line with the chalk to create a straight edge. To create space between the drip edge and the fascia board, pull it down from that line by about a half-inch.

One should use a hammer and 114-inch galvanized roofing nails to secure the drip edge. The drip edge should be installed up the roof along the gable using the same technique as the other gabled ends. To fasten the asphalt roofing felt paper, 114-inch-long galvanized roofing nails should be utilized. Ensure that the shingles extend past the drip edge by measuring 12 inches from the perimeter starting at the base of the roof. It is recommended to mark the first course of shingles at the height of 12 inches and the reveal at intervals of 5 inches. One must carry out these actions on both sides of the roof. Make a straight line every five inches with the chalk line. Draw a vertically straight line six inches apart using the chalk line.
