The roof is an essential component that protects any building from harsh weather conditions. What could begin as a minor issue when a structure's roofing is harmed by bad weather, such as a hailstorm, can soon become a significant problem. The type of damage that results from a hailstorm can be influenced by the material your roof is composed of and how old it is hence the need to know the vital signs to look for when conducting a hail damage inspection.
The destruction will be sporadic and lack any apparent pattern if your roofing is built of composite or asphalt shingles.
The hail-impacted areas on these roofs will feel tender to the touch, similar to how bruised fruit does. If not replaced, cracked or damaged shingles will eventually absorb water, which will then run down to the decking and underlayment of the roof.
There also won't be a pattern if you have wooden shingles, but where hail has fallen, your shingles may show brown or orange fractures, and the sides and corners of these fractures will be serrated. Another indication of hail damage is a break in a wooden shingle with little to no damage around the edges.
