Concrete construction is a highly marketable career. It requires special skills, but even beginners can learn them and do a good job. Poorly laid concrete will crack and affect structural integrity.
You can avoid it using these tips and tricks during construction. Taking the time to do the job properly will prevent repairs from being needed later. It will help you save a few dollars when working on small and uncomplicated spaces within your home if you DIY.
Clear the area off any material that can interfere with the pouring process and prepare the sub-base. Use a granular fill to make it compact for stability. You can use open-grade stone or fine-grade stone. A sub-base should be around four to eight inches thick.
Prepare the form perimeter for holding the concrete and lay a separating fiber material between the sub-base and the concrete layer. Add wire mesh or rebar to form reinforcement support, then lay it inside the form. Mix your wet concrete well and gently pour it onto the prepared. Screed the concrete with a wooded plank to create a uniform surface, then float it to make it more compact. You can create traction with a broom, then cure and seal the concrete surface with a sealant.
