How to Use an Asphalt Crack Filler to DIY Repairs

Even the most durable driveways will show signs of wear and tear after years of use. Thankfully, mending asphalt driveway cracks is a simple process that only requires a little DIY initiative and an asphalt crack filler which is readily available at most hardware stores. Once the asphalt has been thoroughly cleaned, you can begin to fill the crack.

In the following phases, you will receive instructions on fixing little and big fractures. To patch up minor gaps, use a rubberized crack filler. Applying filler to areas that are not damaged could cause the driveway to become discolored. Put on the filler using an application gun designed for this purpose if one is available. Pouring the stuffing into the fracture gently is an alternative approach. Use a putty knife to level out the surface of the fracture. If the damage is more extensive, you could want to fill the crack with small, crushed, angular stones first, up to the depth of two inches. Fill the crack immediately with an asphalt repair material similar to a blacktop. Compact the mix with a tamper or a 4x4 wooden post. You might need to apply an extra blacktop or compound material and repeat the tamping process to ensure a uniform, level driveway after compacting.
