What It's Like to Be a Doctor in a Family Care Doctor Office
A typical day at a family care doctor office starts early, with most locations opening between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. The work of a family physician may require them to work at any time of the day, any day of the week.

Though their schedule may vary, family doctors work fewer hours than physicians who care for patients with acute conditions and those that need intensive monitoring. On average, a family doctor will work about 50 hours a week. This is comprised of 40 hours treating customers and 10 hours doing non-clinical activities, such as filing paperwork. A family care doctor office in private practice may be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.
The first thing that a family doctor does after getting to the office is to meet with the clinic staff. After this initial meeting, they have a look at the list of patients and appointments, and prepare for any surprise that may come along the day. The number of patients the doctor will attend to in a day varies. On average, they may see 25 patients in a day.
