One of the main benefits of this kind of setup is that it doesn't require a pump because it uses steam to move around the structure. However, some models have a condensate pump on the return line, so let's discover how these systems work.

Steam is created when you add thermal heat to water at standard atmospheric pressure. Normally, the water will evaporate at 100ºC or 212ºF. Steam is essentially water molecules that expand, and they want to move up. Therefore, if you have a vessel you're heating and place a lid on top, the steam will try to lift it. If you cover the vessel completely, the pressure inside the vessel will increase as more steam is created.
