Mold can rot wooden surfaces, as well as cause indoor pollutants that may be harmful to the health and well-being of homeowners.

The first step in trying to remove any mold should be to remove any moisture from surrounding areas. Make sure that the gutters to the home and the pipes don't have any issues with leaks or clogs, as these can lead to more moisture getting inside the home. A dehumidifier is a great tool that can be used in areas you believe may have the highest risk, such as the basement.

When purchasing chemicals to kill any growing mold, be sure to follow the directions carefully, as failure to do so may lead to issues with damage to the surrounding areas or the health of the user. Afterward, be sure to place all materials used to clean the area, sponges and paper towels, in a trash bag and secure it tightly. It may also be necessary to change the clothes worn while cleaning and wash them as soon as possible.
