Regardless of where the cabinet is intended for, e.g. the kitchen, bedroom, pantry, or garage, the basics of constructing a custom cabinet are the same. A cabinet consists of a carcass or case with panels on every side except the front, where one may install drawers, shelves, or doors. Wood-based materials used to make cabinets include hardwood, plywood, fiberboard, veneer, and particle board. Hardwood and plywood are commonly considered the best thanks to their durability and pleasing aesthetic, making them more expensive than the alternatives. The least durable would be particle board which is made from pressed sawdust and wood chips held together by resin. Some of the woodworking tools often used include a table saw, jigsaw, power drill, orbital sander, hinge jig, scraper plane, tape measure, claw hammer, clamps, and a Kreg jig. There are five classes of tools in woodworking: measuring, cutting, assembling, holding, and finishing.
