How Concrete Leveling Works

If you have an old concrete path or walkway the concrete may not be level. Uneven concrete can be a tripping hazard and should be fixed. In this article, we will review the steps for proper concrete leveling.

The first step is to drill holes in the concrete. After that, the holes are filled with two-part expanding foam.

Injecting the foam allows you to attach a sidewalk jack. The sidewalk jack is a device that lifts the concrete and gives you access to the space underneath the concrete.

If for any reason you can't use a sidewalk jack there is an alternative method. Instead of drilling the concrete and lifting from the top, you start from below. The way you do that is by digging underneath the concrete without moving it. This is an ideal method if the concrete is next to something easy to dig like a flower bed.

Once you have access to the space under the concrete you will use foam to lift the concrete to the level you want. You will fill the space between the concrete and the earth with foam that expands and supports the path.
