Understanding Auto Glass Repairs

When owning a vehicle, there are many things that can go wrong. For example, if the windshield begins to crack, auto glass repairs should be started as soon as possible to prevent the crack from worsening and completely destroying the windshield. When attempting auto glass repairs, there are a few key things that should be kept in mind.

First, make sure the windshield itself is free from debris. If anything is able to seep into the crack, it can make the damage grow rather quickly. Moisture and dirt are two of the biggest things to keep an eye on when cleaning the windshield.

If the crack is small, the easiest way to go about repairing it is with a resin capsule. When installing the resin capsule, keep an eye on the pressure it is putting on the glass. Too much and the windshield can begin to crack further.

If the crack is over 12 inches, the best course of action is typically replacing the entire windshield.

After the crack is repaired or the windshield is replaced, it is recommended that the driver replaces their windshield wipers. This is because if they were operating while the crack was present, there is a chance that they may have picked up small shards of glass.
