Nothing is prettier than a curb-appealing property surrounded by a crisp wooden fence. It'll look dark and saggy if it doesn't receive regular maintenance, though, due to being the favorite things of animals, pests, and the weather. Fence companies recommend these regular maintenance steps beginning the first year.
Mark Lotz of Lotz Home and Office tells us in the video that power washing and painting or staining a fence should be done every two to three years. Although it isn't recommended, that can stretch to five years.
Mr. Lotz recommends oil-based stains because they're absorbed quicker and deeper than acrylic stains.
Wash your fence with a garden hose and warm soapy water every couple of months.
Clean mold and mildew from fence planks with one cup of bleach in one gallon of water and a sponge.
Inspect the fence once per month for split planks, loose nails, and leaning planks.
Fence companies are well acquainted with termites. You and I might not recognize the signs of their presence, but the pros will. Call them once or twice a year to make sure your fence is pest-free.
Your fence doesn't have to be perfect to be improved. Simply clean it, paint or stain it, and keep the planks unmarked, and you'll have a lovely fence.
