Garage floors tend to have hairline cracks, so it's important to patch cracks before coating the floor. If you use a high-solids epoxy primer, then over 90% of the mixture applied to the floor stays on the floor. This is because there isn't much solvent in the epoxy. Alternatively, many DIY kits are low solids and water-based, which means half of the material evaporates into the air, leading to lower durability. Some companies like to use a Polyurea or Polyaspartic primer. However, these primers set up faster than epoxy, which may lead to undesirable results.
