How to Fix a Common Broken Air Conditioner Problem
While air conditioner systems are rather complex, there are a few problems you can handle yourself. Professionals can be costly, so if you have some DIY experience, read on to discover how to make one of the most common repairs.
If the air conditioner doesn't turn on and makes a buzzing noise from the outdoor component, it's likely due to a failing start capacitor.
To complete a repair, get a few tools together. These include a nut driver, a drill, needle nose pliers, an electrical tester, and a new capacitor.
Before disconnecting, turn off any power to the unit. Use the drill and screwdriver to loosen and remove the electrical panel, as well as the barrier at the top to access the dual wire capacitor's wiring, so it can be removed and replaced. This is necessary when the part has worn out, burned out, or is faulty.
Loosen the surroundings of the bracket holding the capacitor and begin removing wires. Take a photo to indicate where each wire should be placed to avoid a major error. Next, take or order a new part, and put it back in place following the reverse actions you performed to secure it for reassembly. Once it's in place, test the power with a tester and if all is up to recommended levels, go ahead and turn the power back on and soak in the cool air indoors.
