Beverages are often stored in aluminum cans that are much more sophisticated than they look. Aluminum cans have a cylindrical shape, which is quite significant. Cans that were spheres instead of strong cylinders could actually be manufactured using fewer materials.
The lack of corners in both cylinders and spheres can be valuable since those angular areas can become weak points.
Still, cylinders are more practical to create than spheres, because they'll stay in place on the table, unlike a sphere. It's also possible to get a comparatively large portion of the actual beverage product in a cylindrical can because of its form. People would lose a large percentage of that liquid if it was kept inside a spherical aluminum can instead.
Some customers might wonder why aluminum cans do not usually have corners or angles. These aluminum cans would actually be much more difficult for many people to handle, however. They would also not be able to easily drink from these structures. It might be possible for a manufacturer to store more cans if they had this sort of form, but the consequences of having the angles would not be worth it. Modern cans made from aluminum have this design for a reason.
