Homeowners love the wide range of concrete paver designs and the option to DIY install these landscape elements. Let's take a look at the installation process.
Once pavers are chosen, installation begins with prepping the area. Remove the sod and grass and dig down at least eight or nine inches.

Next, you'll begin building the paver base itself, after all, wobbly pavers wouldn't be very useful and could even cause potential injury. The base begins with a gravel mix called pack, which is distributed and packed firmly into the ground removing air pockets and empty spots. Add a layer of base sand atop the hard pack. Using a level and a two-by-four board, make sure the sand creates a flat and even surface for your pavers.
In the next step you will lay pavers on the sand one at a time according to the layout guide you have roped off on your project outline. It's usually easiest to begin with a square paver and work your pattern from there. Once the pavers are laid out, fill in the gaps with a finishing sand to seal the cracks. Wash the pavers clean and allow the sand to set and you are done. You've created a new paver patio.
