      1. Misrepresenting the Factsby Southern Belle on 10/15/2013

I signed for the Italy Regular/Lourdes/Fatima tour approximately 11 months in advance of the trip. Information I received promised to "fly from anywhere in the continental USA". I chose to fly from my local airport. Several months prior to the trip, I received a call that I had to fly from an airport 140 miles from my own local airport. When questioned, the agent said that the flights were booked. I knew that this was impossible since flights are never full from this airport, especially four months in advance. After calling someone else at the agency, I was told that they preferred to use the same airline for the entire trip, and could not do so it I left from the local airport. We were told that our hotels were 4-star; apparently Europe has a different rating system than the USA. Our Rome hotel was horrible; tiny rooms, and the promised breakfast consisted of packaged cookies, coffee, and a carton of eggs that we could boil for ourselves. Other members of the same group were housed in a hotel around the corner that was much nicer and had a real breakfast. While the tour guides were EXCELLENT and the scenery was beautiful, the logistics left me exhausted due to having to board a bus at 2AM to catch an extremely early flight from a town that was over two hours away, and also spending over 8 hours on a bus one day for a four hour visit to a city. When booking the trip, we were also advised that our final payment should be by check, as they would charge a 3% fee for anyone using a credit card. A relative who had paid his deposit called to make his final payment with his credit card and was told they did not take credit cards. He canceled the trip. I loved my time in Europe, but would not use Proximo travel again as the tour company.

The first impression one gets from Proximo is that they are dedicated to their customers' satisfaction. This, in fact, is not the case. ||[]||[]On a recent Italy, Lourdes, and Fatima trip I found the following things anyone considering Proximo should be aware of:||[]||[]1) The hotels chosen by this tour agency have a wide swing. We experienced several good hotels (Tuscany, Lourdes, and Fatima, and an absolutely terrible hotel in Rome). When faced with questions, we were told to consider the European travel experience. This was asking us in essence to pay more for less. The hotel in Rome had little to no amenities (soap, stationary, spotty wifi, etc.), terrible hotel service, and extremely small rooms. The breakfast in several of the hotels left everything to be desired (no variety or selection, inadequate offerings, coffee from machines instead of brewed, etc.).||[]2) When given dietary preferences, they failed on all but two meals. As a result, you went hungry, or left the group to pay for a meal elsewhere after you had already paid as part of the tour.||[]3) The timing and logistics of movement from place to place was abysmal. We frequently found ourselves spending 8 hours in a single day on a small bus too cramped for the number of people. In the worst case, we had to answer a 1:00 AM wake-up to drive several hours to an airport to catch a 6:00 AM flight. Then we had to endure an eight hour tour.||[]||[]My recommendation .... AVOID THIS OPERATOR! DO NOT BELIEVE ANYTHING THEY PROMISE YOU.
