Follow the manufacturer's directions for installing the battery or batteries in the new keypad. Depending on the keypad, pick a key code between four and six numbers. Most openers will require you to push the “learn" button to allow you to enter the program mode. The button is either under the lamp cover or close to the electrical contacts. The key code is input into the keypad after pressing the learn button. A final starting sequence is entered on some openers. To ensure that the door may be opened and closed, use the key code on the keypad. Select a convenient location for the keypad installation. This is frequently found next to the garage entrance on the inside of the doorjamb. On the doorjamb, measure a height of roughly 5 feet. Before tightening the higher screw, release the opener. To use some keypads, you must place the opening over the head like a keyhole. To lock it in place, you slightly press down on the pad. For the keypad to remain in place, insert a second screw.
