Your Guide to Electric Vehicle Charges

This video shows that level one car charging uses regular household wall outlets to charge an electric vehicle (EV). This type of charging is typically slower compared to higher-level chargers. It can add approximately three to five miles of range to an EV per hour of charging. It’s ideal for individuals who drive shorter distances or have a relatively low daily driving range.

Many motorists use it for overnight charging or when faster charging options aren’t available. While this charging may not be ideal for those needing longer daily driving ranges or quick charging, it can still be a convenient and cost-effective option for many EV owners.

Level two charging, on the other hand, requires a dedicated charging unit and can add about 10–20 miles of range per hour of charge. It’s common in public charging stations and is suitable for faster electric vehicle charges. Meanwhile, level three charging, also known as DC fast charging, uses a high-powered charging station.

It can add around 80 miles of range in just 30 minutes of charge. DC fast charging is ideal for long-distance travel or when drivers want to top up their battery in less time. However, some EVs aren't compatible with this charging system. For this reason, motorists should check their vehicle's specifications before using this charging station. Overall, it’s important to consider the charging options available and driving habits.
