Many different situations cause homelessness. However, in the case of young people, it is often the lack of adult provision or care. A homeless teen is a young person who lacks parental, foster, or institutional care. Without the provision of such necessary care, they are forced to live in the streets, in hotels, in cars, and in abandoned buildings. Sometimes they may move from one friend's house to another. While each of these experiences is different, they are all dire and scary.

Some homeless teens are runaways, or we're kicked out of their homes by their parents. While in some cases, they were abandoned by their loved ones. These teens are constantly at risk of getting sick, depressed, or even being victims of crimes. In many areas, they are lured into a life of crime to survive, and many are susceptible to joining gangs. Attending school can be challenging for homeless teens. It can be trickier after school hours and during school breaks when they have nowhere stable to go.
