Your Guide for DIY Patio Installation Like a Pro

Patios significantly improve a home's outdoor living area. Fortunately, homeowners may also complete a patio installation through the DIY process, sometimes even on a single weekend. To begin installing your patio pavers, you must first measure the space and mark it to indicate the patio's intended location.

Dig a hole 150mm deep, ten cm for the sub base, five cm for the mortar, and one cm for the paving slabs since the final patio should be at least 150mm underneath the waterproof membrane course if you install them close to the home. Use a spray bottle or a watering can to lightly sprinkle your paving stones with water to dampen them because laying dry slabs will cause the mortar mixture to dry out too soon. Lay your slabs in rows, with ten mm spaces between each, but you must first put a small amount of mortar using a trowel where the center of your first slab will be. Use a mallet to gently tap the slab into the mortar and place a spirit level over the pavement slabs as you proceed to ensure that they are level. Ensure nobody walks on the patio for at least 24 hours to enable it to dry. Once it is dry, fill the spaces with a sand and cement mixture, which should be in a five-to-one ratio, and remove any extra mixture by brushing it off your patio's surface.
