When setting up a petting zoo, ensure you have a plan for the animals, water, and equipment. Also, ensure you use tall fences to keep animals safe and secure. Your animals should stay healthy and happy by checking their health status to avoid spreading diseases like E. coli and salmonella. Also, give the animals time and space to move freely between areas. If you place cages close together, the animals may fight each other. Try spacing the cages apart, so everyone has room to roam. A barrier is a great way to prevent accidents and diseases. Keep food, drinks, and water bottles away from the animal area. Be sure to set aside a table or a holding location under the animal handling area for people to place their belongings and water bottles. Always ensure strollers are locked up when not in use. Strollers create opportunities to spread germs to children by bringing food and pacifiers into animal areas.
