How Stained Glass Restoration Companies Bring Art Back to Life

Stained glass windows can be found in places of worship and museums and add beauty and light to the interiors of such buildings. That said, they tend to fade over time due to the impact of heat and other weather elements, causing them to lose their luster and even fade. The video demonstrates how stained glass restoration companies restore stone glass windows and ensure that future generations can appreciate their artistic value and appeal. The restoration process starts with an assessment involving detailed photographs of the stained glass.

It is then disassembled, and the panel is rebuilt. To do this, a rubbing using waxed crayons is made. The frame is then submerged in a non-acidic cleaning solution, which softens the cement between the LED strips so the window can be disassembled. The glazing is then leaned off using a straight-edged razor. If a part of the stained glass is fractured, it is replicated on a new piece of glass in the same shape so that it can fit back into the original stained glass. The fractured piece is annealed back into the original stained glass window using new LED canes and an electric solder. Glazing is then performed using glazing cement and whiting calcium carbonate. The panel is now cleaned, polished, and vacuumed, which gives the stained glass a refreshing new look. On average, this process takes about a week to complete.
