When you need shingles to be installed on your roof, you need to have a great roofing service ready to do the job. The first step in this roofing service is to get the drip edge installed. This goes on the edges and is an important part of the roof.
When this is done, the nails should not penetrate the front flange and shouldn't be visible to those on the ground.
The next step is to install the felt over the roof. The felt is installed starting at the bottom and going to the top of the roof. This is installed over the drip edge so that water will pass over it. Plastic caps are used to complete this task. Then, the starter strip is installed. This is placed all along the perimeter edge of the roof. It is placed on the roof about 1/8" further than the drip edge is located. It is installed with nails.
The next phase is to install the shingles on the roof. The shingles are booked, meaning that the one above a specific shingle will come down 6 inches over the edge of the one below it. This helps with keeping moisture away from the roof.
