With a mini-split system, installing ductless air conditioning is surprisingly simple. Installing an A/C system seems like a job best left to the specialists. In most cases, it is. However, this ductless "mini-split" system was put in a garage by two amateurs in a single day.

The unique line arrangement made the installation quick and simple. It features connectors that don't call for specialized knowledge or equipment and is prefilled, or "precharged," with refrigerant. Mount the two main components, then attach the condenser's line set. Although most mini-splits don't, some do come with an easy-install line set. You may install a mini-split system in your house, garage, cottage, or shed. Some provide both cooling and heating, and some have several evaporators to service various rooms. Don't forget to consult your local electrical inspector if you have some electrical knowledge but require additional direction. Although it is not the inspector's role to serve as a consultant, most will provide you with some guidance and a list of code requirements. A level surface is required for the condenser to sit on. A concrete pad may be poured, but a plastic condenser pad is quick and simple. The fabric sleeve that covers the line set is unsightly and difficult to keep clean.
