You need six inches of space above and on either side of the unit you want to install. Keep in mind that the mini-splits are available in two separate units, which are the indoor and outdoor units. The indoor unit houses an evaporator, and the outdoor unit contains a compressor. The evaporator is best placed in the center of the room, away from sunlight, for maximum cooling. You should place this unit high on a wall, so check that the wall can support the otherwise lightweight units. The compressor should be placed on level ground to support its weight. Ensure the surface is flat and rigid and give at least two inches of clearance on all sides for proper airflow. Be keen not to place the unit near windows or doors because it emits heat. Place the outdoor and indoor units as closely as possible to maximize systems efficiency.
