Before you begin building the patio, you need to take measurements and decide the size of your patio. It is best to build it on a level surface that won't hold water when it rains, such as on the top of a hill.
Once you have measured the area and decided on a size, you should pick out the pavers or stones you want to use in your patio. You can either use more traditional pavers that are all the same size or for a more modern look, you can mix and match different types of pavers in a fun pattern.
If your patio is up against a wall or in a spot that won't fit a full paver you may need to cut some of them. There are special tools made to cut tile and pavers. You should always wear proper safety equipment when cutting pavers.
Once you have decided on a pattern and placed the base layer of sand, you can begin laying your pavers.
