How Long Your Home's AC Should Last

We all want to get the most out of our AC systems, and this means we want them to last for as many years as possible. You’ll have to bring in professional technicians at times, and some of the companies out there are going to try to get you to replace your system without actually needing to do so. Any good HVAC company will give you the option to get  AC repairs or have them put in a replacement AC unit or system.

If you live somewhere with brutal summers, it can affect the life of your AC. You might need to have it replaced more frequently.

Heat pump systems tend to last 15 to 18 years because they cool and heat your home. Straight cool systems can last closer to 20 years since they only cool the home. Even with this difference, it’s important to remember that heat pump systems are the most efficient way to heat a property.

There are a few factors that mainly affect how long your AC will last. The most important thing is that you have a proper system installation. Other big factors include having a technician come in for preventative maintenance about once a year and that you don’t try to cool your home at a much lower temperature than the temperature outside. For instance, you shouldn’t set your AC to cool your home to 60 degrees if it’s 100 degrees outside.
