Top Tips to Dealing With Water Pressure Issues

To adjust the pressure, follow these steps from a local plumber:

• Drain the tank of water completely.
• Check the pressure switch setting. For example, for a 30/50 pressure switch turns the pump on at 30 psi and turns it off at 50 psi.
• Look at the switch cover to determine the “on” pressure, and set the air pressure in the tank 2 to 5 psi below the “on” pressure. E.g. for on psi of 30, set the tank at 25 to 28 psi.
• If the air pressure is too high, press the valve for 10 to 15 seconds to let out some air. If it is too low, add some air.

To check if the bladder is leaking, the owner can move the tank from side to side. If there's any water sloshing inside, the bladder is bad. Viewers can also knock on the tank. (A hollow tank sounds like a bell.) If the nipple below the switch is clogged, it will prevent accurate pressure readings. Viewers can remove the switch and clear dirt or debris from the nipple.
