Before laying any tile, the installer should first design a detailed floor plan. The installer should know where to lay tiles and how many are needed. They should also be sure to create layout lines.

They can do this by creating a chalk line across the floor from the center of opposing walls and then creating a second line between the opposite walls.

Once the layout is complete, the tile-laying process can begin! Starting from the intersecting chalk lines, the installer will dry fit a roll of tiles along one line towards the wall, stopping once there is not enough space for another whole tile. This process is repeated for the other chalk line. Remember, if there is a disparity between the size of the empty spaces, the installer will need to start over. Better to be safe than sorry!

Although a floor installation project can feel straightforward, there are some cautions that an installer should beware, such as that tiles with directional arrows should point in the same direction.

If an installer has additional questions, they are welcome to read the DIY Projects & Ideas section on the Home Depot website or talk to an associate at a store near them. Good luck with your project!
