How to Install an Outdoor Air Conditioner

The most important time for an AC system is the day it's installed. Poor installation could lead to a constant need for repair and a very brief lifespan. So if you have finally decided to replace your AC or buy a new outdoor AC, you need to know a few basics on an AC install before you DIY or call the AC specialist. The first thing you need to do before an AC install is to choose a location for the AC.

The ground in the selected location should be firm and away from direct sunlight. Although you can install an AC in a place without a shade, AC systems tend to work better when located in well-shaded places. Once you find the perfect location, level the ground and place a pad where the AC will sit. The pad should be six to ten inches from the walls of the house. The next step is to cut a hole in the walls of the house to run the AC electrical pipes into the house. In most cases, a two-inch hole is enough to run everything through. You also need to cut a hole in the plenum to fit in the evaporator coil on the inside.
