How to Work With Reclaimed Wood

This video shows where they store wood planks of varied sizes used to make barns and other structures. Some reclaimed wood has milk paint on it used to kill bugs and keep conditions more sanitary in barns. This milk paint gets into the grain and is hard to remove.

It is used for beach houses and rustic pieces. The darker wood is treated by removing the nails. often pressure washed, stacked, and stickered. The wood planks or boards are put into a kiln with elevated temperatures of 130-160 to kill bugs and larvae before processing. This is important because larvae can live in wood for many years. Then the boards are put through a machine that sands them down to be used in building barns and for building a bar for a French restaurant. The bar wood pieces were reclaimed, and they were cut and sanded. They will be using a water-based finish that will not give the wood an intense shine. The bar is constructed of three pieces with round wood corners that will be installed on top of the three wooden pieces.
