Everything You Need to Know When Starting Your Garden Greenhouse

There are certain things you must know about building a greenhouse. The location is crucial. An ideal location has enough sunlight and shade with proper drainage and shelter from the storm. The south is the perfect location to start a greenhouse, followed by the southeast and southwest. After choosing a location, decide if you want a free-standing or lean-to greenhouse.

The former gives more options, but a lean-to greenhouse is easier to build and requires fewer materials. It can also be heated by the radiant heat of the house if built on a southern exposure. Decide on the size and the type of building material. Build a slightly larger greenhouse than your originally decided size to accommodate expansion. Ideal garden greenhouses should comfortably contain the equipment and allow free and safe movement when working inside. You can use glass polycarbonate paneling or fiberglass and polythene film when building your greenhouse. Glass is the most expensive option and is easily damaged during storms. Fiberglass is lighter, cheaper, storm-resistant, and easier to fabricate, but has a shorter life span. Polythene film is the cheapest-readily available option. It is easy to install but is the least durable. Finally, consider heating and ventilation. You can use oil, gas, or electricity for your heating. Automatic temperature control is the best option.
