The daily life of an optician, like any professional, starts with a big cup of coffee. An optician is a professional who helps fit and focus eyeglasses and other corrective lenses. Opticians are the first line of defense against eye diseases and other health conditions. About a half-hour before the opening of the eye doctor's office, the opticians review their daily caseload and doctor's appointments.

One of the most important job duties of an optician is to help patients keep their medical information private.
Once the office opens, the opticians start their first case of the day. When the first patients arrive, they perform measurements related to their glasses, like taking pupillary distance and making sure that glasses and contacts match the prescription that the doctor wrote. Once the morning cases are handled, the opticians break for lunch so that the business is always covered while everyone eats.
In the afternoon, the routine is repeated. A few emergency glasses repairs or other eyewear problems may come in during the day without notice, these are handled as they come and as efficiently as possible. At the end of the day, everyone is ready to go home and do it again tomorrow.
