You may be wondering how technology has been able to improve the plumbing process. After all, the basics of plumbing have been relatively unchanged since the Roman Empire. Residential plumbing can really still be described as tubes bringing water into the home and tubes pulling waste out. How can that be improved upon?
As it turns out, technology has improved plumbing in a variety of ways. In particular, the advent of video pipe inspection.
Video pipe inspection allows the plumber to detect issues, and potential issues, in the pipes without having to result to digging.
This technique involves a camera on a flexible rod being entered into the pipes and pushed down the line via remote control. The plumber is able to view the camera feed on a monitor in order to inspect the pipes for cracks and blockage. In the past, the yard would have to be dug up for the pipes to be inspected by eye.
Video pipe inspection usually happens along with a cleaning. The camera will show areas of the pipe that are getting clogged, which can then be cleaned and flushed. These two activities usually occur in tandem since pipes are often in need of cleaning and a dirty pipe will not show the results the plumbers need to see.
