The first step to create a patio screen is to frame it out to the size of the foundation and covering material that you will situate it between. You'll then use 2x4s to establish a place to attach the screen mesh to that will be the backing for the material. Don't attach these pieces just yet, as there are several steps to take prior to doing so.
Next, set the backing down on a flat surface to cut the screening on. Lay out the material 3 to 4 inches on the top and bottom sections and the sides as about an inch to leave room for stapling it to the edges of the backing divider. The staples will be covered with trim material in the final steps.
Connect the dividers to their appropriate locations and then hammer them into the screen surround. Create tension in the screen and staple the screen every few inches to secure it to the back surround. Afterward, add a piece of wood to the bottom section to lock everything in.
To boost the security and stability of the screen and segmented backing, screw in the screen edges. Next, use a sharp, hand-held utility knife to cut away any excess material, so it doesn't hand over the edges. Then, add trim to the top and side edges to cover the staples and prevent scratching users and to create a finished look. The patio should then be ready for to enjoy.
